Karachi: The Sindh High Court has taken a significant step in response to a petition challenging the construction of a housing project within Kirthar National Park in Malir District. The court has summoned the provincial chief secretary to address the concerns raised by the petitioner.

During the hearing, the petitioner’s lawyer presented arguments before a two-member bench led by Chief Justice Ahmed Ali Sheikh. The lawyer highlighted that substantial portions of the natural landscape within Kirthar National Park were being allocated to a builder for the development of a sprawling housing enclave.

This decision has sparked serious concerns about encroachment on the park’s territory. There are fears that this encroachment could have dire consequences, potentially leading to the endangerment and extinction of rare wildlife due to increased human activity within the park’s premises.

The judges expressed astonishment and frustration at the lack of response from the provincial administration. Consequently, a summons has been issued to the chief secretary, requesting their personal presence to address the issues at hand.
